Run was nice today. I was a little worried initially about keeping the easy run pace for the whole run, but as things went on I realized that I was able to the pace without too much effort and I started dropping my pace and finished off with a 6:02 and having my slowest mile be my first one after the warm up with 6:47.00. Once I finished I did core with some of the Ragnar people who mostly just sat there and complained about being tired. Then I went and road the bike at the Hinckleys which was a little weird because I'm so used to the bike at my house which is really loud, but the hinckleys is super silent and I wasn't sure if I was working hard enough. I ended up doing 9 on the bike in 30. My IT band was acting up a little towards the end of my run and then a little on the bike too so I came home and threw on my full length compression tights and I stretched out pretty good at the Hinckleys too before breakfast so that was good. I have to admit, tomorrows workouts going to be killer if its up airport like I think it is. I also stocked up a lot on the salt when I got home to help me recover faster.

Nice easy recovery run today. I had to run most of it alone again, which I'm finding has its pros and cons. I tried to keep it as a true recovery pace, but I kept thinking about that chart that Jamie has up and how I should be having my recovery like 7:30 or faster, so my goal was just to keep myself under 7:30. It was really hot today and so Im glad I found the drinking fountain at the Jordan River trail head in the big park down there when I did. Jamie had a great Idea of once I start getting higher, making sure I bring GU's and know where to get water so I don't end up dead on the side of the road somewhere. The core and bike were solid today. Ended up doing core inside since everyone was leaving when I got back, so I guess I have that to be grateful for, because I was then able to do it inside. IT band felt good today and having the speed workout tomorrow sounds really nice and I'm excited that its only up the cemeteries little hill instead of Airport. That would be really rough right now, but I'm still feeling good and looking forward to higher mileage.

Todays run didn't go as well as I had hopped that it would. I went out and really pushed it and felt great on the first part of the ladder that we were doing up the cemetery hill, but at the very tail end of the one 400 and then from the last 300 down my heart rate just soared and then my breathing started getting a little too fast and I could just feel myself shutting down. Luckily I was able to hit more or less the same splits on the back end that I did on the front end, I was just 1 second off each split, but I wasn't speeding up like everyone else was and I ended up coming in last I think in my group on the last 100. I'm not totally sure what was going on, because it's the same type of feeling that I had at state just a little while ago. I know I had plenty of salt yesterday and I didn't have any more caffeine than normal this morning. The only thing I can think of is that maybe with my increase of salt intake that I didn't compensate for that and have enough water, or that I just didn't eat enough yesterday, which I thought I did, but maybe I didn't, so I'm making sure to eat more today to try and see what happens tomorrow. After the workout I barely limped out of the cemetery for the rest of my miles at like a 10:30 pace. Luckily I was able to speed things up later on though and the further that I ran, the better I felt and I was able to finish out the rest of my run with a few sub 7:30's and then finished my last mile out at a 7:17. So that was good, but the workout just wasn't what it should have been so that was bummer. Hopefully I'll be able to bounce back and do good on the steady state run on friday in the heat.
