Todays run didn't go as well as I had hopped that it would. I went out and really pushed it and felt great on the first part of the ladder that we were doing up the cemetery hill, but at the very tail end of the one 400 and then from the last 300 down my heart rate just soared and then my breathing started getting a little too fast and I could just feel myself shutting down. Luckily I was able to hit more or less the same splits on the back end that I did on the front end, I was just 1 second off each split, but I wasn't speeding up like everyone else was and I ended up coming in last I think in my group on the last 100. I'm not totally sure what was going on, because it's the same type of feeling that I had at state just a little while ago. I know I had plenty of salt yesterday and I didn't have any more caffeine than normal this morning. The only thing I can think of is that maybe with my increase of salt intake that I didn't compensate for that and have enough water, or that I just didn't eat enough yesterday, which I thought I did, but maybe I didn't, so I'm making sure to eat more today to try and see what happens tomorrow. After the workout I barely limped out of the cemetery for the rest of my miles at like a 10:30 pace. Luckily I was able to speed things up later on though and the further that I ran, the better I felt and I was able to finish out the rest of my run with a few sub 7:30's and then finished my last mile out at a 7:17. So that was good, but the workout just wasn't what it should have been so that was bummer. Hopefully I'll be able to bounce back and do good on the steady state run on friday in the heat.
